STAFFORD, Va. (AP) — Students at a new high school in Stafford are getting an extra six days of summer vacation due to a construction delay.

Media outlets report that the start of the school year at Stafford High School has been pushed back from Sept. 8 to Sept. 14.

The school district said in a news release Friday that general contractor Hess Construction failed to meet requirements for temporary occupancy of the school, delaying the planned move of administrative offices.

The district says teachers will work from home next Monday through Friday.

Deputy County Administrator Keith Dayton says among the list of incomplete items are sprinkler and alarm systems. He says plumbing leaks also are a problem.
