STRASBURG, Va. (AP) — Strasburg residents are being asked to voluntarily restrict water usage following a decline in the North Fork of the Shenandoah River’s water levels.
Multiple media outlets report that the town issued a drought watch at the beginning of August after the river’s seven-day moving average dropped to 130 cubic feet per second. Water levels later fell to 111 cubic feet per second, prompting a drought warning on Aug. 21.
The normal average is 175 cubic feet per second.
The drought watch had recommended limiting showers, avoiding washing cars and other measures. The drought warning contains additional recommendations, including avoiding using sprinklers and limiting lawn watering to twice a week.
