NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State baseball team had a record 16 players participating in the recently completed collegiate wooden bat summer league circuit. As a whole, the group excelled, giving the returning Spartans positive momentum heading into the 2015-16 season as NSU looks to defend its MEAC Northern Division title.

Here is how each member of the group fared:

Coastal Plain League

Peninsula Pilots (with regular-season statistics)
Matt Outman, Sr. LHP – 3-2, 2.72 ERA, 32 K in 43 IP (CPL all-star)
Devin Hemmerich, Jr. LHP – 0-3, 3.40 ERA, 41 K in 47.2 IP – led the team in strikeouts
Robbie Hiser, Sr. RHP – 1-0, 2 saves, 1.12 ERA, 12 K in 8 IP

Martinsville Mustangs 
Cooper Jones, Sr. RHP – 3-2, 2.06 ERA, 7 saves, 32 K in 35 IP
Lane Ward, So. RHP – 2-3, 1 save, 6.03 ERA, 14K in 37.1 IP

Morehead City Marlins
Keyshawn D’Orso, So. OF – .220, 1 HR, 7 RBI in 20 games (17 starts) – summer cut short due to injury

Petersburg Generals
Andre’ Moore, Sr. OF – .214, team-high 11 SB in 35 games (26 starts)
Kyle Vaas, Sr. 1B – .256, 4 RBI in 20 games (13 starts)

Futures Collegiate Baseball League

Martha’s Vineyard Sharks
Michael Parmentier, So. RHP – 2-3, 8 saves, 1.91 ERA, 49 K in 37.2 IP (FCBL all-star)
Parmentier earned second-team All-FCBL honors. He also struck out nine batters in 4.2 innings pitched in his last outing in the league semifinals.

Valley Baseball League

Waynesboro Generals
Alex Mauricio, So. RHP – 1-0, 1.48 ERA, 3 saves, 35 K in 30.1 IP, 22 H (VBL all-star)
Mauricio also led his team to the playoff semifinals, pitching 4.1 scoreless innings with six strikeouts in three playoff appearances.

Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League

Utica Brewers 
Ismael Herrera, So. C – .214, 3 RBI. Herrera batted .322 in his last 10 games.

Victor RailRiders
Matt Boone, Jr. RHP – 0-0, 6.35 ERA, 19 K in 17 IP (team advanced to the league championship)

Tidewater Summer League

Greenbrier Knights
Robert Depp, Jr. 1B – .415, 16 RBI, 2 HR, 16 BB – won the TSL’s Ted Williams Award as the league’s top hitter

Mid-Atlantic Pirates 
Tony Leite, So. OF – .314, 1 HR, 17 runs scored, 7 RBI
