(NSU Newsroom—Aug. 12, 2015)—Virginia Secretary of Education Anne Holton will be one of the guest speakers at the Norfolk State University Opening Conference which will be held in the L. Douglas Wilder Performing Arts Center on Aug. 17 at 9 a.m.

Holton will provide educational remarks to nearly 1,000 Norfolk State University faculty, staff, and administrators, many of whom are returning to campus for the upcoming 2015-16 academic year at NSU. Holton, a former judge and First Lady of Virginia, is an attorney who has spent decades serving families and children. She has led efforts to help children transition out of the foster care system and enter college.

Norfolk State University Interim President and CEO Eddie N. Moore Jr. will also deliver NSU’s State of the University address. The theme for the academic year is “Repositioning NSU for a Brighter Future.” Moore will provide details, ideas, and set the tone for how NSU will operate during the upcoming year and beyond.

The address will be followed by several faculty workshops and presentations. Other Norfolk State opening week activities include the annual Freshman Convocation at 6 p.m. on Aug. 18, also at the Wilder Center. Both events are free and open to the public. If your media organization plans to attend either event, please contact the NSU Office of Communications and Marketing at 757-823-8373 or marketing@nsu.edu.
