NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State University baseball program’s second annual NSU Baseball vs. Hunger event, held on Thursday, May 7, resulted in donations that will provide 3,809 meals to the surrounding community.

The Spartan baseball program collected monetary donations and non-perishable food item donations for the Food Bank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore at NSU’s game against Jackson State. NSU collected 1,306 pounds of food and $898 at the game.

More than 500 fans turned out for the game, which also included a post-game fireworks show.

“On behalf of the Spartan Baseball program, I would like to thank all of the organizations and individuals who generously supported the Food Bank fundraiser,” NSU head baseball coach Claudell Clark said. “I’m hopeful that this event will gain greater awareness each year so that we can continue to assist with the fight against hunger in Southeastern Virginia.”
