Firefighters took about an hour to put out the blaze in the 100 block of South Rolfe Street near Columbia Pike; they said the home was total loss and two other houses next door were also damaged.

Fire crews reported heavy flames coming from the second floor and the attic of the home when they first arrived, but said fortunately the occupants had all made it outside.

The residents managed to notice the flames and escape despite the fact that smoke alarms in the house failed to activate, fire officials said.

There were no injuries reported from the blaze.

Fire Marshals spent the afternoon combing through the debris to investigate the cause and origin of the fire.
