Lawrence Buckner was shot outside the Census Bureau headquarters in Suitland. The 58-year-old is survived by his wife of 36 years, a son, four grandchildren and a large extended family.

A viewing will be at noon Thursday at Cedell Brooks Funeral Home in Port Royal, Va. The funeral is at noon Friday at Little Zion Baptist Church in Colonial Beach, Va.

On April 9, authorities say an armed man kidnapped his girlfriend, fatally shot Buckner and led police on a car chase through Maryland and D.C. An exchange of gunfire left the suspect and an officer wounded.

Forty-eight-year-old Ronald Anderson has been charged in the case. His attorney has declined to comment.
