NORFOLK, Va. – Senior right fielder Alina Moriarty was honored by the conference office on Monday afternoon when she was named the MEAC Player of the Week for softball.

She hit 10-of-19 over the course of seven games last week with six runs, two doubles, three home runs, six RBI and two walks.

She hit 2-for-2 and scored a pair of runs in an 11-6 win over Drexel on Saturday for NSU’s first victory of the year. A native of nearby Chesapeake, Va., she also batted 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI in a contest against George Washington last Thursday as well as 2-for-4 with one double, one home run and two RBI vs. Rider on Saturday.

On the year, Moriarty is hitting .483 in 29 at bats with eight runs, three doubles, three home runs, seven RBI and five walks. She leads the team in average, runs, hits, doubles, home runs and RBI.

The Spartans will return to the field this Saturday and Sunday at Coppin State for the first conference games of the season.
