CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — The man charged with abducting and killing a University of Virginia student is due in court for a hearing on pretrial motions.
Jesse Matthew Jr. is expected to appear in person Wednesday in Albemarle County Circuit Court. His only previous appearance since being charged in 18-year-old Hannah Graham’s death was by video link from jail.
The 33-year-old Matthew is charged with first-degree murder and abduction with intent to defile. His lawyers are asking a judge to postpone his June 29 trial. They also want the state to provide a DNA expert.
Matthew also faces trial June 8 on charges of attempted murder and sexual assault in Fairfax County.
Authorities also say forensic evidence links Matthew to slain Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington. He hasn’t been charged in that case.
