NORFOLK, Va. – Junior forward RaShid Gaston was named the MEAC Defensive Player of the Week late Monday afternoon, as the conference office announced its weekly men’s basketball honors.
The native of Warren, Ohio led NSU to a win in its only game of the week, a 72-69 triumph over Howard on Saturday at home. He finished with 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting with 14 rebounds, three assists and three blocks in 36 minutes.
On the season, Gaston is averaging 14.9 points and a team-leading 9.7 rebounds to go with 1.5 assists and 1.3 blocks per game.
It marks the third weekly honor for 6-9 forward, including the second defensive player of the week award. He was also named the conference’s player of the week in early December.
The Spartans will be back on the court this Saturday at Morgan State for a 4 p.m. contest.
