Virginia National Bank, founded by Charlottesville-area investors in 1998, has been awarded the 2015 Hovey S. Dabney Award for Corporate Citizenship by the Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce.
The chamber will present the award Feb. 26 at its annual membership meeting and business luncheon at the Holiday Inn on Emmet Street.
The meeting, underwritten by Virginia National Bank and R.E. Lee Cos., typically attracts more than 200 business and civic leaders.
“Virginia National Bank epitomizes what a community bank should be,” said Frank Friedman, president of Piedmont Virginia Community College. Friedman, the immediate past chairman of the chamber board, served as chairman of the selection committee for the Dabney award.
“[The bank’s] leaders and employees are an integral part of our community, supporting numerous causes and events with their time, talent and financial support. They truly live up to their motto: It’s all about people and always will be,” Friedman said.
The chamber established the award in 2005 to recognize outstanding corporate citizenship in the greater Charlottesville area. The award is underwritten by Hunter E. Craig, W.K. Heischman and Ivo Romenesko.
Virginia National Bank remains local and is governed and managed by local directors. The $1 billion enterprise holds more than $600 million in deposits and lends more than $300 million annually to local residents and businesses, chamber officials said.
VNB utilizes local contractors and suppliers and recently hired R.E. Lee Cos. for construction and remodeling of the bank’s Pantops headquarters.
Glenn Rust, president and CEO of the bank, is a member of the chamber board. He and other employees of Virginia National Bank serve on the boards of a variety of area nonprofits, including the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Virginia, Hospice of the Piedmont, the Charlottesville-Albemarle Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the Paramount Theater, the Senior Center and the United Way-Thomas Jefferson Area.
