NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — A Norfolk spokeswoman says the city attorney has decided to dismiss criminal charges against a woman who was bitten by a police dog in a show of force that was deemed unreasonable by the police chief.

Lori Crouch says city attorney Bernard Pishko has also offered to pay for London Colvin’s medical bills that are not covered by insurance. Police were investigating 911 calls regarding a party and a street fight on Jan. 25 when Colvin was stopped for questioning.

Colvin, an Army reservist and Norfolk State University student, was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. She filed a complaint with police. The officer involved is on administrative duty.

The police department is reviewing its policy on the use of dogs.
