As part of Black History Month, Norfolk State University will pay tribute to the contributions African-Americans have made throughout the United States and in the Commonwealth of Virginia by hosting panel discussions, several art exhibits, special lectures and performing arts events.

The university will host several “signature events,” that will explore topics such as the importance of educating a new generation civil rights litigators, the psychological health of African-Americans and the connection between Buffalo Soldiers and the Philippines. The events will also feature special performances by the NSU Theatre Co. and performances by guest actors who will act in plays based on the evolution of African American women in America and the life of Frederick Douglass.

Several NSU Black History Month “signature events” are featured below. The calendar and events were arranged by the 2016 NSU Black History Month Committee. To view a complete listing of Black History Month events, visit www.nsu.edu.
