Body found in Smith River identified as that of missing man

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (AP) — A state agency has identified a body found in the Smith River as that of a missing Martinsville man.

Police tell media outlets that canoeists found the body in the Eggleston Falls area of the river around 9 a.m. Saturday.

The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries identified the body as that of 30-year-old Joseph Sink Jr.

Sink had been missing since Oct. 6. Police say he and Donald James Burton of Ridgeway were in a canoe that overturned south of Martinsville. Burton was able to get to the riverbank.
