men charged in plot to kill acquaintance’s wife

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — A Norfolk grand jury has indicted three men on charges stemming from a plot to kill an acquaintance’s pregnant wife.

The Virginian-Pilot (http://bit.ly/1Qac2iR ) reports that 19-year-old Robert James Burnette, 21-year-old Tristan Richard Reeder and 21-year-old Joseph Kelly Apodaca were charged on Wednesday with conspiracy to commit second-degree murder and conspiracy to maliciously wound.

Burnette and Reeder also are charged with carrying out the Aug. 22 attack, which 19-year-old Elizabeth Shelton survived.

Shelton’s husband, 21-year-old Anthony Christopher Johnson, is accused of hiring the men to kill her. He’s charged in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court with three felonies.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether any of the defendants has an attorney.

Norfolk commonwealth’s attorney spokeswoman Amanda Howie says Shelton has since had her baby.
